Common Canvas is a community-involved art project in conjunction with our annual fundraiser, My Own Two Hands. And there’s a way for everyone in the community to participate!
Here’s how you can take part in the fun…
Bid on the “Opening Doors” art pieces at Sisters Art Works, now through May 12
Nineteen local artists have taken creativity to a new level in these amazing art pieces. You can bid on your favorites at Sisters Art Works, now through 6 p.m. on Friday, May 12, when the silent auction closes. Each piece has a starting bid of $25 (minimum $10 bid increments) and a “Buy It Now” price if you just have to have it. You can view the Opening Doors pieces here or download a list of Buy It Now prices. Bidding only requires your name and phone number. You are welcome to call our office at 541-549-4979 to authorize us to proxy bid for you or authorize a Buy It Now
Create Your Own Postcard Art
Everyone is invited to decorate their own wooden postcard. The postcard is designed to look like a doorway and we’ll ask you to illustrate or write a few words about the door you’d like to walk through in 2017. Be as artistic as you like! All the postcards will be displayed in an installation at Sisters Art Works, sharing your hopes for 2017, and then we’ll mail it to you at the end of the year. Postcards are available for pick-up at our office right now in the Sisters Art Works building at 204 W. Adams Ave., Suite 204. We’ll also have postcards for you to work on at the Belfry on Friday, May 12. We’d like all the completed cards back by May 12.
Participate in a Group Art Project
Finally, we have a beautiful full-sized door that’s just begging to be decorated. On May 12, starting at 5 pm at The Belfry, we’ll turn it into a Community Created Piece of Art. We’ll provide the supplies – you provide the creativity!
We’re very excited about this year’s Common Canvas project and can’t wait to see what doors it opens for you! – The Board and Staff of Sisters Folk Festival
Our thanks to OrePac for creating and donating the door frames and the full-size door, and to Roundhouse Foundation for financial support for the 2017 Common Canvas Project.
